Melt Crystallizer
|
|
KMPS has recently completed construction of a
modular Melt Crystallizer system for a Gulf Coast specialty
chemical producer. The unit shown has been designed to
separate 2 different mixtures, each containing 2 isomers which
are not economically separated using distillation because the
boiling points of the isomers are very close. The Melt
Crystallizer shown was designed and supplied to KMPS by BEFS
Prokem. |

The
entire train of reactors and distillation columns shown here were designed
and fabricated as modular units by KMPS for a gulf coast specialty aromatics producer. The columns are packed with Koch-Glitsch FlexipacTM
structured packings.

Phenol Recovery
|
| This
modular phenol recovery system treats wastewater for a US resin producer,
reducing phenol concentrations to 1 ppm. It replaced a toluene extraction system. The new system employs butyl acetate for extraction, resulting in a
65% reduction of fugitive emissions and a thousand-fold reduction in phenol
losses. The phenol recovery
technology was developed by KMPS engineers. |

As
a result of utilizing modular design and fabrication techniques for this
multipurpose batch and continuous vacuum distillation system, Koch Modular
Process Systems was able to significantly reduce the installed cost and shorten
the construction schedule for the expansion project of this specialty aroma
chemicals manufacturer. |

Pseudocumene Purification
|
| The two vertical
modules incorporate vacuum distillation, liquid-liquid extraction and
nitrogen stripping columns for ultra-high purification of pseudocumene. KMPS
initially provided a laboratory purification system and was later awarded
the contract for the full scale system shown here.

Steam
stripping is used to remove various organic contaminants from plant wastewater in order to meet guidelines for Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) standards set by the EPA. The organics and steam from the top of the column are then
condensed and separated using a decanter. The condensed steam is refluxed to the top of the column.

Benzene Stripper
|
| Benzene (VOC) contaminated waste-water is
stripped from 30 ppm to 0.5 ppm with a fuel
gas that is subsequently sent to flare. The de-contaminated waste stream is then sent to
the facilities waste treatment plant.
