This
modular system is designed to operate in a semi-continuous
mode to recover isopropyl alcohol (IPA), near it's
azeotropic concentration, from an aqueous process stream
generated in the production of a pharmaceutical. The
system is subsequently operated in a continuous mode to dry
the IPA, using azeotropic distillation.

PEG Steam Stripper
|
| This
steam stripping system treats various organic laden aqueous wastes for a Midwest
pharmaceutical producer in order to bring them into compliance with the
pharmaceutical effluent guidelines.
The column has Koch-Glitsch anti-fouling BiFracTM
stripping trays and a short trayed
rectification section.
All process equipment is fabricated in alloy C276 and process piping is
PTFE lined. |

This
modular system separates toluene from acetic anhydride for a Southeast US
pharmaceutical manufacturer.
A packed distillation column using Koch-Glitsch FlexipacTM
generates a pure toluene product, removing the acetic anhydride overhead as a
minimum boiling azeotrope.
A packed liquid-liquid extractor filled with Koch-Glitsch SMVPTM
extraction packing is then used to recover acetic anhydride from the azeotrope.
VLE Data for this system was generated by KMPS engineers, regressed and
then used to model and optimize the process. |

High Vacuum Aroma Distillation
|
| This modular distillation system
separates two very close boiling compounds under reduced pressure for a
Southeast US aroma chemical producer. The column was packed with 5 beds of
Koch BXä wire gauze structured packing yielding
80 theoretical stages.

Impurities
are removed from motor oils using a continuous countercurrent extraction
process.
The extraction step is followed by vacuum distillation to recover
the extraction solvent.
The entire process was pilot tested at Koch Modular Process Systems
pilot plant in Houston, Texas.
A SCHEIBEL®
extractor was selected for this application.

Glycol Recovery
|
| This modular ethylene glycol distillation system treats a waste stream
from a US fiber producer removing low and high boiling impurities. The system
employs a Turba-Film® thin film
evaporator supplied by LCI Corporation to remove solids from the feed stock. The
process technology was developed by Koch Modular Process Systems' engineers.

KMPS designed and supplied a commercial biodiesel purification
unit to a Midwest customer in 2003. The objective of this unit
was to purify methyl esters by vacuum distillation from a crude
biodiesel stream which includes impurities such as water, methanol,
glycerin, mono-glycerides, di-glycerides, tri-glycerides and
other high boilers. This plant has been successfully operating
for over 3 years. |
